This
apartment is located in a
neighbourhood which is a must for anyone
visiting Madrid. It´s two
blocks away from the well known Paseo del
Prado, which changes its
name after the Plaza de Cibeles and continues
as the Paseo de la
Castellana, famous avenue which crosses the whole
city from north to
south. At the area where the apartment is, all the
main museums are
over this avenue: the Reina Sofía –worldwide
prestigious arts
centre-, the
Prado Museum
or the Thyssen Bornemisza,
all of which you´ll be able to reach
walking less than three minutes.
The
Plaza de Cibeles is one of
Madrid´s symbols where great manifestations
take place. From this
point, to the east you´ll see the Puerta de
Alcalá and to the west,
the Alcalá Avenue which takes you to Madrid´s
historic centre –Puerta
del Sol and the Gran Vía-.
The Paseo del
Prado ends at Atocha
Station, about five blocks away from the
apartment. It is the city´s
main train stations from which all the
regional rains an those going
to other important cities leave –such as
the AVE, the high speed
train that takes you to
Sevilla
Toledo or
Alicante-. The building, built in 1851, has been always
considered a
work of art
in the railway architecture and stage of many crucial facts
in
Spanish history. This happened again after the terrorist attacks
which
took place on March 11. Added to this mystic atmosphere
characteristic
in Atocha, is the spectacular 4.000 m2 tropical garden
which,
unbelievable as it may seem, is in the inside of the station.
This
area
also hosts the famous
Parque del Retiro,
main green space in the
city, just one block away from the
apartment. It is a 118 hectare park
and main meeting point for locals
and tourists. Many concerts, shows
and other leisure activities
–roller skating, tai chi lessons,
jugglers, musicians- take place.
It
is a great base for
business since it’s central and very well
connected with the rest of
the city, the airport and the rest of the
country.
Atocha is the
city’s main national train station, you
will only need about 25 minutes
to get to Barajas Airport, principal
over ground station and plenty of
underground lines, buses and
national coach station).
Some of the
most important touristic and
cultural spots in the city are within
walking distance, such as
Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen museums,
Palacio Real, Plaza Mayor,
Puerta del Sol. On Sundays the famous flee
market “EL Rastro” at only
10 minutes walking form the door.
